What is Apprenticeship at Local 716?

We have three trades that we apprentice- Plumbing, HVAC, and Pipefitting.  Welding is a part of all of these trades. Each trade is a 5 year earn while you learn program.  Students are mentored on the job by Journeyworkers and go to school where they learn trade specific subjects.  We work with the United Association to provide excellent training, the UA spends over 100 Million Annually on Apprentice and Journeyworker training!  For more information please check out this website: UA APPRENTICESHIP

Who can be an Apprentice at Local 716?

The following criteria must be met in order to be able to apply to our apprenticeahip program.

Attend and Apprenticeship Orientation (effective 2011)

Be 18 Years Old and a Maine Resident

Attend an Interview

Have a Valid Drivers License

Have a Minimum of a GED or Highschool Diploma

Pass a pre-hire drug screen


How do I apply to be an Apprentice at Local 716?

Any person interested in being an apprentice must attend an Orientation, we have them one time a year, typically in the early spring.  The Orientation is 2 hours long and will tell you everything that you need to know about our apprenticeship opportunity. If you are interested in attending an Orientation please submit a resume to and put ORIENTATION in the subject line.  We will put you in to our system and contact you by email when an Orientation is scheduled.  After hearing the presentation, you will be given an application packet.  After the application packet is returned we will schedule an interview.
