Welcome to the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 716This is the official web site of the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 716, in the beautiful state of Maine. Local Union 716 represents over 600 members. Our jurisdiction covers the entire state of Maine, from just above North Berwick to Madawaska, from Eastport to Wilsons Mills. In order to help our members we have set up three Tele-conference locations around Maine. Our hope is that by eliminating most of the travel more of our members will be able to participate.
Southern Maine Tele-conference Location - Thadeus Street, in So. Portland
Northern Maine Tele-conference Location - Eastern Maine Central Labor Council on Ivers Street in Brewer.
Local 716 Union Hall in Augusta will be the home base of the operations.

If you have ever thought of opening your own business, please attend this informative seminar. S.C.O.R.E. will be leading the morning session with information about starting a small business. S.C.O.R.E is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). This seminar is very helpful for those people who are looking for resources about financing, budgeting, business plans and many more essential small business tools.
In the afternoon the presentation will include information about how to have a union supported business. Administrators will explain the advantages of the health Insurance, retirement and other union business benefits you may consider.
A light breakfast will be served at 9:30 am and lunch will be provided at 12:00. We look forward to seeing you there and helping you achieve your small business goals in 2009!

one clue that this recession is going to be long and brutal is the fact that vocational guidance counselors are now suggesting to college graduates that they consider careers as open sea pirates. Okay, that’s not true. But still, one can imagine how daunting and demoralizing things must be for college grads entering the job market at this precarious time—and not just for those who were hoping to break into investment banking, real estate or the stock market. Across the board, things are bleak.And the situation is even worse for blue-collar workers, those entering the national job pool without benefit of a college degree.
